How to Reset Your Goals And NOT Give Up
Need a boost to find out why you need to reset your goals?
Perhaps this could be what you are going through….
– Can’t seem to hit the targets or milestones that you have set again and again so far?
– No longer can connect with the “why” you are doing what you are doing?
– Feeling disappointed over the lack of results and feeling tempted to give up?
I’ve observed that “losing sight of the why” and “feeling frustrated” are pretty common experiences with many spiritual entrepreneurs who are struggling.
Well, if the above is true for you, allow me to share with you this anonymous wise saying that has been around….
Most people Overestimate what they can do in a Single day and Underestimate what they can do in Whole Lives.
Where the Problem Lies
A common scenario for many spiritual or conscious entrepreneurs go like this…
Through an awakening journey, we get very excited with the idea of doing what we love and aligning with purpose. Then, there comes a time when we feel ready to be committed to pursuing our vision. It is when we have found our “why” and we would like to start our own business to make our dream come true.
We go about creating vision boards, make positive affirmations daily and try our best to meditate for inspired ideas. Subsequently, after attending a motivational talk or perhaps after listening in to the advice of a business coach, we also feel compelled to set some big goals. During the goal setting exercise, we revise our our targets upwards because we have been told that “if your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.”
Indeed, we are most swayed when psychics and fortune tell us that we are meant to make a huge impact in the world. We feel all powerful and ready to conquer the world. To demonstrate this, we change our social media profiles to say that we are on a mission to save 100,000 lives.
Sounds familiar?
Well, here is also where the problem lies. The thing is that we want to accomplish A LOT within a short period of time. The estimates or the goals that we draw could have been externally driven, for the most part. As gauges, we rely on the trajectory path of the successful leader or our friend who appears to have gotten success overnight. We would like to believe that the same can happen for us in a short time frame too!
It will be like a dream come true; to be able to run the business that we love, to lead the life that we want and experience the financial abundance that we deserve.
Unfortunately, things don’t pan out that way for everyone.
When reality does not match expectations, we become bitter, disillusioned and frustrated.
Which could be where you are at.
Challenges on the Road to Success
The road to success is taking a lot longer and harder than what you have initially expected it to be like.
Somehow when you apply the same steps of the successful leader, you are not getting the same results.
With a huge goal to achieve, there is just a lot to get through each and every day and you are already feeling overwhelmed.
Admittedly, you have also encountered distractions and doubts.
These have derailed you from your path.
You tried your best to muster that spurt of motivation again and again….but when you do, you still find yourself encountering the same results.
You now have got doubts whether you are even cut out for the path that you have chosen.
You wonder if you will ever reach “there”!
There is every temptation to give up!
Do you see a pattern in here?
Do you find yourself in the vicious cycle of pain, disappointment and feeling “not good enough” for success?
Fret NOT.
Allow me to share what to reflect on, so that you can reset your goals.
It’s certainly how I have been motivating myself to stay in the game!
Reflect & Reset Your Goals
People Overestimate what they can do in A SINGLE day and Underestimate what they can do in their WHOLE lives.
In reality, FEW people become successful overnight.
Mostly, success is 10, 20 or 30 years in the making.
Successful leaders try a lot harder than most people. No one was paying attention to them when they were down and out. They did not get to be where they are without tons and tons of practice, tenacity and grit!
Every Master has a Humble beginning!
Remember this: You only FAIL when you GIVE UP!
If you are still trying, you have not technically failed.
Everyone likes the idea of overnight success but few real-life stories happen that way.
People Overestimate what they can do in A SINGLE day but Underestimate what they can do in their WHOLE lives.
You may be inclined to want to skip the problem by deciding against setting timelines. Well, setting goals has its merits. Setting goals to accomplish within a certain time frame is meant to help you keep on track. On the other hand, failing to reach your goals is not for beating yourself up. Goal-setting is help you prioritise, organize and schedule the more important tasks.
Hence, reset your goals with more realistic timelines and in a way that is aligned with your dreams is key.
How to Reset Your Goals
Listen in to the video if you prefer to hear it from me 🙂
What’s NEXT? Here are 3 things you can do to reset your goals…
1) Reconnect with your vision and the “why” you have chosen this path.
Focus on your dream – the WHAT. Think about how you are going to feel when you have manifested your dream. Don’t change WHAT you want, but you can always choose to change the HOW (go on to step 2).
2) Find out what your gaps are by reviewing what you have done.
Identify if your timelines have been unrealistic and if you have been overestimating the time that is needed. Go for continuous improvements every day and these surely will lead to staggering results!
3) Most importantly, work on your mindset.
Mindset is everything.
Think about the successful leaders. What do they have in common? It’s a success and growth mindset. Many will admit that they were not born with one but had to work hard with cultivating it. If you want to reach success, it’s what you need to do for yourself too. Need some mindset coaching whilst you reset your goals? Contact me here.
Reset Your Goals with Adjusting Estimations
Most people Overestimate what they can do in A SINGLE day and Underestimate what they can do in their WHOLE lives.
In the same manner….
Most people Overestimate what they can do Achieve One Year and Underestimate what they can Achieve in Ten Years.
To reset your goals, if you have been overestimating what you can do, find out if there are blocks or resistance in the way. The more blocks and resistance are in your way, the longer it will take to reach where you want to be. Place some attention on removing them and you will be able to move further along and nearer to achieving your goals and vision.
At the same time, if you have been underestimating what you can do in a decade or your entire life, it’s time to realign with a revised upward forecast!
Wishing you every success!
Love and abundance always,
Evelyn Lim
