Power Word(s) for Intention Setting In 2011

A vision encapsulated in one power word is the single intention driver to what you hope to achieve for the year. Rather than get caught up in crafting lengthy goals, a single-word has its benefits in creating focus. What is great with using one word intent is that if aligned, it consolidates your efforts in energetic resonance.

Blogging With Love
(A bunch of sunshine on my desk)

A Quick Review of Last Year’s Power Words

Last year, around this time, I wrote an article on 30 power words to activate intention setting and visioning. Thereafter, I chose abundance as my overall power word with the elements of creation, creativity and gratitude .

If you had been a reader to my site last year, you would see many posts with these themes. I was big on creativity and creation last year.

– I became a Vision Board counselor and also took a completion certification with the Scrapbook University.
– Inspired, I started using scrapbook ideas to create mini-vision and gratitude boards and pictures of life sayings (for examples, refer to here, here and here).
– I began weaving stories into my posts.
– I also started a number of projects, tapping into my creativity in order to create them. These will be announced on my site when they are completed and I am done with them.

Deciding Over Carefully

Many personal development bloggers have shared about their power words at the turn into 2011. Suzie shared that hers is abundance, Lance is “Shine”, Evita is “Centered” and Farnoosh is “Patience”. Over at Chris Brogan’s site, he uses three words instead of one.

It was tempting to come up with one quickly. However, I decided not to give in to angst but to really sit through the process of arriving at the intention which I wish to set.

Now that it is coming to a close to January…..do I know what power words I would like to set for intention in 2011?

Well, after weeks of contemplation, I have decided. As usual, the overall power word is abundance. But specifically, for this year, I chose three related words.

And The Word(s) Is (Are)

(Drum roll)….

Integration. Inter-alignment. Patience.

Integration. According to the dictionary, integration means the act of combining or adding parts to make a unified whole. My intent is to integrate abandoned or forgotten parts of myself into wholeness. Using the Enneagram, as I am a Type Four, it means that I first integrate into the energies of a Type One and the rest gradually. (Learn more about the Enneagram in my previous posts: How Would You Cross the River and What Enneagram Type am I).

Inter-alignment. By integrating into wholeness, I own my full power. I am also better able to align both my inner and outer worlds. This means that going forward, I create ways to make the benefits of inner changes relevant in the physical plane. It means that I find ways to express myself authentically, creatively and inspiredly in a manner that will bring value to my readers and clients (and you of course 🙂 )

Here is an excerpt that I wrote in my book…

Having understood the principles of this book, we are to realize that the only way forward in the modern world is to not just take an inward journey but to make our changes relevant. The challenge for the abundance alchemist is to find a way to align the inner and outer worlds, so that the expansiveness of one maps out to the other. I call this process “inter-alignment”.

Abundance alchemy is the art of inter-alignment, the weaving of the two worlds into a radiant tapestry that promotes life. The magic that aids in the transmutation is a function of the Philosopher’s Stone – the weaving process facilitated by the Magnum Opus.

Abundance Alchemy: Journey of Gold

Patience. Change is not and has not been easy. I intend to practice more patience with myself and the process that change involves.

Most certainly, I hope to share more about my experiences – both challenges and successes – from having these intentions in the posts for the year.

What is Your Power Word?

Do share your power word or words for the year. What do they mean?

I urge you to reflect and come up with one, if you have not given thought to it. Having one or up to three has helped me in the previous two years 🙂

More power to you in 2011,

Hello Dandy,

Great idea to take your time to think over what power word to represent the energy resonance that you would like to be aligned with for the year. Intention setting is a powerful exercise, so it’s best to be clear about what you are hoping to achieve.

All the best,
Evelyn

Last year my words were Abundance and Radical Change. I thought a long time about what my new worlds would be during the first few weeks of January and almost landed a few times but then I would flutter on to a new word. Finally a few weeks ago I settled on my words for this year:

BIG LOVE
PEACE OF BODY
Blossom

thanks for asking, I’ve been wanting to share my words and I like to hear what others words are too! 🙂

Hey Rebecca,

I know how it feels like to have “almost” landed on a word…LOL! I didn’t come up with Patience until I observed what has been happening to me in the last two days. The word only came just minutes before I published my post. And I realized that it would be an important theme for at least the next 6 months.

Glad to read about your words. Peace of body seems to be a great shift from Radical Change.

With love and blessings,
Evelyn

Evelyn,
You SHINE at abundance…it is something I always feel when I’m in this space! That is you, focused on this deeper intention you have set for yourself. And it is so wonderful to see this manifest!

So, I look forward, very much, to what lies ahead this year – and the way you will reach into my soul with your words this year.

Much love to you,
Lance

Hi Evelyn,

I love your related power words especially patience. That is something we could all use more of since events will not unfold according to our wishes no matter how hard we try. I think integration and inter-alignment will also make great words to guide you through 2011. Aligning your inner and outer worlds will give you cohesion and focus to carry out your plans.

I never knew you were type four for the Enneagram. I’m type six. 🙂

My power word or theme for 2011 is “Thinking Ahead.” I am focusing on developing my foresight and creativity which I feel will be very useful for me.

Thank you for sharing this article! 🙂

Hello Irving,

Glad that we are with me on the Patience part.

It’s interesting that you point out that you’re a Type 6. I seem to get along swimmingly well together with Type Sixes 🙂

“Thinking ahead” sounds good. Developing creativity is a great idea. Tapping into the energies of creativity will allow you to provide a better offering to your readers and clients.

With much appreciation,
Evelyn

Excellent post Evelyn. Did you know that your social media boxes are on the left hand side of the page, which interfears w/ones ability to read the content?? I guess the work then would be “OOPS”!! I tweeted it to see if that would make it go away but it didn’t – hum. At any rate, LOVED the flowers and the idea of setting a word intention sounds like a plan. As always thanks so much.

Hi Alison,

I am aware about the new floating side bar that has not been sitting prettily. I am still looking into it and may take it off if it cannot be fixed.

The one word intent has worked for me, knowing how distracted I can be with so many things on at the same time. Try it and share your results!

All the best,
Evelyn

Hello Nancy,

I cannot choose the word for you. It has to come from you. Best way to get to know this word is through inner contemplation. Another way is to ask yourself what are you currently resisting or have challenges in. Therein lies the answer to your word.

Hey, great question from you! I like learning about where readers find difficulty in. I hope to provide better articles, targeting your questions going forward.

All the best,
Evelyn

Evelyn,
I think my word for 2011 is going to be: Progress. Last year was a year of absorbing a lot of change and information. This year all of the information will come to fruition.
I love how you described inter-alignment as the process of integrating our inner vision with our outer world to manifest abundantly. You said it much more eloquently though! lol!

Hi Angela,

I wish you plenty of progress throughout the year. You are certainly heading in the right direction 🙂

awwww Thank You Evelyn. I love how you outlined how you chose your word and then took action with the word ‘abundance’ I love it.
All the things you did to take multiple steps..
* by becoming a vision board counselor
* weaving stories into your posts
*starting new projects
I ADMIRE YOU! 🙂

I, just like, Chris Brogan chose 3 words:
1.) Gratitude always-Stay in the vibration of gratitude always.
2.) Birth in Full consciousness-Awaken spirit within. Integrate the feminine balance within my home. Birth new concept and ideas and go at it full swing. Expand into higher consciousness of being.
3.) Harmony – Become a better parent. In business relationships. Inviting more love and laugh, nurture and nourish. Find adventure in the midst.

THIS YEAR FOR ME IS REALLY TAKING CARE OF MY NEWBORN BABY SHE IS DUE IN MARCH.

The last 3 years has been soooo busy building my businesses that I have this need to slow down in order to speed up later. Family is always my priority. So I weave my words to enlarge and incorporate my family in one way or the other.

Thank You for sharing yours Evelyn:
Integration. Inter-alignment. Patience. SO WONDERFUL!

p.s. I’d love to learn more about Enneagram for sure… Thanks for bringing it to our attention Evelyn

Hello Therese,

You’re having a baby in March…woohooo!!!

It’s my turn to admire you. In the midst of it all, you are intending to evolve spiritually! Oh wow!

Enneagram is a great tool to show where and how you integrate for wholeness. It is easy to say that we wish to integrate but the question is how. Enneagram provides you with a practical understanding in a short period of time. It is also handy for contemplative sessions in meditation. I am glad that you learn something new 🙂

Hope that you would continue to stay in touch,
Evelyn

My word for 2011 is yield. I know, that doesn’t sound very powerful. But I think of it as it’s used in the Tao Te Ching. Yield and overcome. Like water yields and yet is powerful.

Evelyn Reply:

So long as the word works for you, I think it will do great! The thing is to really sit in with what you’re hoping to align with. I enjoyed the part about the water!

Davina Haisell - January 27, 2011 Reply

Hi Evelyn.
I like that you’ve chosen three words 🙂 They can dance with each other.

The word I chose for 2011 was Cornucopia. At first I had the perspective about receiving abundance, but not long after I’d begun to focus on that word my perspective changed. I found myself considering not only the abundance I could attract, but the abundance of gifts that I already have and how I could apply them.

This falls so nicely in line with the excerpt you shared from your book: “…the only way forward in the modern world is to not just take an inward journey but to make our changes relevant.” Love it!

Evelyn Reply:

Hello Davina,

And so you taught me a new word today 🙂 I had to google a search on what it means. I can barely pronounce it.

The meaning of it is beautiful, nonetheless, now that I have read the definition and what you said. It’s great that you are considering how you can apply the abundance of your gifts. We are on the same page!

Wishing you abundance always,
Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,
Great post, interesting that that we both have abundance as our power word,I also had manifesting magic and after reading Chris Brogan I have been doing some reflection on what my 3 words will be that reflect how I want to be in 2011.
I like your integration, I have been musing on integrity. I do like inter -alignment
in abundance
Suzie

[Reply]

Evelyn Reply:

Integrity is a great word, if you are thinking about it. It’s the energy of doing what is right, what is wise.

Glad you like inter-alignment. It’s not about existing in two separate inner and outer worlds but aligning them for more empowered living.

With love,
Evelyn

Stephen - January 28, 2011 Reply

Hi Evelyn, I love your 3 words choice, although I must admit to having little or no Patience. On reflection, I think mine are Silence, Peace and Persitence. I started to write about the importance of silence in my last post and hope to build on that this week. The more I read, I get continually drwan in to the need for peace in our world. So much of it is dominated by greed and competition. And I guess my key word for this year is Persistence. That’s the word that enabled light bulbs, motor cars, space travel, the internet etc etc. (if at first you don’t succeed, then change things slightly and try again….) Take care now, Stephen

Evelyn Reply:

Great choices there on Silence, Peace and Persistence! I know what you mean about persisting in our efforts. The temptation is to give up, when things are not working to our expectations. I wish you much enduring success!

More Power to you,
Evelyn

Hello Evelyn –
Thank you for wonderfully insightful and educational postings – I truly look forward to each one! I love the idea of choosing a word or words for the year, which reminds me of when I was an administrator of a middle school and we would choose a word/ theme each year as a guide. So, hmmm now to think of my personal words…..the ones that quickly come to mind for me are SHINE like Lance said, SERVICE as LOVE, and COMMUNITY as UNITY.
In Abundance and Gratitude,
Linda
