Meditating with Affirmations
“If we know the divine art of concentration, if we know the divine art of meditation, if we know the divine art of contemplation, easily and consciously we can unite the inner world and the outer world.” Sri Chinmoy
Today’s post “Meditating with affirmations” is contributed by Mind Valley, publishers of best-selling programs such as The Silva Methodand Omharmonics. I have personally used the mentioned programs and recommend them myself. In fact, the Silva Method or known as the Silva Life program was the first few complete program I have used at the start of my personal development journey some years ago. Hence, I am very pleased to be contacted by friends over at Mind Valley, for the presentation of the article below.
Meditating with Affirmations
If you regularly struggle with low self esteem, or if you feel you need a boost in confidence to overcome a problem or be able to think clearly and independently, then meditation may well provide the answers you are looking for. Life nowadays is often a highly stressful experience – many of us often suffer due to stresses and worries overcrowding our minds, and this can lead to unpleasant circumstances, poor decision making, anxiety and depression.
These things happen to the best of us, and they are not a sign of weakness, merely a symptom of sensitivity in an often insensitive world. It comes as no surprise that stress is now one of the highest causes of illness (both physical and mental) in the developed world, and as such, it is also no surprise that people are looking to ancient wisdom and techniques when it comes to combating stress and thinking more clearly.
If you are struggling with stress and low self esteem, you need to focus your efforts and energies affirmations – a type of meditation which is designed to help you think more clearly, feel better about yourself and raise your self esteem to avoid depression or anxiety.
Affirmations are what they appear to be – telling yourself positive things about yourself, reminding yourself of the truth of your life, and remembering that you will survive whatever it is you are struggling with and that there are positive times ahead of you. Most meditational forms of affirmations follow the pattern of ancient mantras – repetitive words or phrases used in ancient Indian religious practices. Your unconscious mind over time accepts the mantra as truth, and as such, your outlook and mindset is altered to what you want it to be.
Preparation
In order to make your affirmations effective and successful, you must first prepare yourself and put yourself into a state of deep relaxation. Many people find meditative music very helpful for this, and music can be a great way for meditation beginners to quickly and easily attain a meditative state.
Whilst you are doing your deep breathing exercises, you need to begin visualizing a relaxing scenario – picture yourself vividly surrounded by a calm blue sea, or a lush green forest. Ensure that in your visualization you are alone, and everything is quiet and still, and deeply relaxing.
As you breathe, let yourself become a part of this scene. Become one with the ocean on which you are floating, or let yourself become enveloped in deep green grass. This will allow you to become tranquil enough to let the affirmations you wish to make penetrate into your unconscious mind, and associate tranquility or quietness with positive thoughts.
Using affirmation mantras
When you begin your affirmations or mantra, match it with your breathing. You should be in a state of relaxation deep enough so that your breaths are slow and measured – a perfect situation for you to focus on releasing (breathing out) negativity, and gaining (breathing in) positive thoughts and energies.
Try telling yourself that you are breathing out depression, and breathing in confidence as you inhale and exhale. Try and feel these feelings or emotions as real sensations entering and exiting your body. Tell yourself over and over again that you are exhaling your frustration, and inhaling acceptance, that you are letting go of sadness and receiving wisdom and bliss. After some time, you should be able to just float in your positive energy and enjoy the sensation of deeply meditating, before returning to the waking world and feeling energized and positive.

Hi Kimbundance,
What a great suggestion to start with the affirmation “I am”! I have affirmation audio from Louis Hay too. It is wonderful that we share similar interests!
Love and abundance always,
Evelyn
