Lessons from the Chinese Bamboo Tree
Are you feeling impatient or dejected over the lack of any evidence of success?
Would the following situation be what you are currently experiencing?…You’ve put in the hard work with blood, sweat and tears and you’d like to see some “proof” of result. However, it’s been quite some time and you are still not observing any signs of progress. There is nothing or little feedback to indicate that you are moving in the right direction or that the Universe has been paying attention to your prayers.
If so, allow me to introduce to you lessons from the Chinese Bamboo Tree.
The parable is one of my favorites. It offers important lessons on faith, perseverance and patience. It’s one that I like to remind myself when I am still in the building or foundational phase of a venture or project.
What’s the Chinese Bamboo Tree Parable about?
Like any plant, growth of the Chinese Bamboo Tree requires nurturing. It requires water, fertilizer, soil and sunshine.
In its first year, if you start growing the bamboo, you won’t see any signs if the tree is growing at all. In the second year, nothing too. Not the third or fourth year as well.
At this point, your patience is being tested and you may start to wonder if you are wasting your time and energy. The temptation is to give up tending to your garden or soil.
Well, not just yet!!!
Lessons from the Chinese Bamboo Tree Parable
Should you persevere and just keep going into the fifth or sixth year, it’s when you behold what appears to be a miracle! The Chinese Bamboo Tree sudden shoots up. It grows 80 feet in just six weeks, looking tall and magnificent!
When others look at the tree…the fruits of your labour…your results…they may even think that you have achieved an overnight success!
But wait a minute….let’s stop to reflect.
This is a parable, after all.
Did the Chinese Bamboo Tree really grow 80 feet in six weeks?
Against the backdrop of Chinese bamboo trees at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, I recorded the lessons from the parable in a video. Listen to it below….
