Keep Holding On To Faith

I had an amazing dream recently. I saw myself standing on the rooftop of a tall building with a male companion. He did not look like my husband or any friend I know. I strained for a clearer view. However, his face still appeared hazy. I just could not make out who he was. What I sensed instead was that he was some kind of a mentor, a guide probably.

Leap of Faith
(A page on “Holding on to Faith” that I made in my scrapbook album after having my dream. I enjoy making arty reminders!)

In a dramatic turn, I saw myself free falling in the air. I seemed to have fallen off from the top of the building.

Down, down, down I went.

Some distance away, I saw that my companion was falling with me too. As I whizzed down, I was seized in panic. My anxiety was related to the fear of dying. I wondered if this was going to be my very end.

And then, I heard a voice.

It was deep, comforting and penetrating.

I instinctively knew that it came from my companion.

The voice commanded gently but firmly, “Let go and surrender”.

I continued to fall.

Thud! It was the sound of my feet against the ground. I next saw myself having landed on my feet together with my companion. How strange, I thought, to be able to land safely. It would need a miracle to survive a fall from that high a building.

This was when I awoke from my dream.

The Message From My Dream

As I gradually gained consciousness, I became aware of a song playing faintly in my mental background. Realizing that the song could be something important, I started to tune in.

I followed it for a while.

As I “turned” its volume up, I finally recognized what the song was.

It was the rendition “Keep Holding On” sung by Rachel Berry (actress: Lea Michele) from the show Glee.

The song went, “keep holding on…..we will make it through….”

(In case you would like to know how the song is like, you can click to listen in to the youtube video below…)

Now fully awake, I understood what the message in the dream was. It was apt: Keep Holding on to the Faith and Let go of the Fear.

How wonderful!! The message in my dream had come in response to my asking. Just before going to bed the previous night, I had requested for some spiritual guidance. I was losing faith over a new personal challenge posed during the week. One part of me did not seriously believe my internal drama; yet there was another part of me that was experiencing a sense of hopelessness. It was interesting that “Keep Holding On” was not even my vote for the best song sung in the TV series Glee and yet, it had played in my mind. The message on not giving up was indeed reassuring.

And so it was that I woke up with a sense of calm. I saw that the early sun rays had streamed through the opened window. The day had just begun.

Light of Faith While Deep In Darkness

While I sipped my morning tea that day, I scanned through the news in the papers. One article stood out. It was about the rescue of 33 Chilean miners trapped underground for sixty nine days. The rescue effort had become an international one, with assistance offered in the form of a capsule designed partly by Nasa and special underwear sent by the Japanese.

Seven hundred meters below ground, the miners had to undergo fear that was akin to being buried alive. A period of sixty nine days trapped underground with no sunlight and rationed food would have meant a slow death, if not for success. It was traumatic not just for them but also their family members. The article highlighted about the agony of waiting for rescue and the possibility that anything could go wrong.

The miners were rescued safely in the end. However, what was poignant about the real-life event was that the miners had shown immense courage whilst undergoing their ordeal. They demonstrated hope, staying on track and comradeship. Their story centered on Faith. They were heroes!

Tears welled in my eyes as I read the heartfelt account about the trapped miners. Then, I saw the hilarity of it all. My personal trial now appeared to be trivial compared to theirs. Oh gosh, how silly I was to fret over such a minor challenge!! It had to take a dream and a newspaper article to knock some sense into me!!

Keep Holding On to Faith

What about you? Are you going through some challenges at the moment?

Well, if you are, I would like to encourage you to keep holding on. Don’t lose hope. Where there is a will, there will be a way. When you take a leap of faith, either the net will appear or you’d find yourself receiving guidance on how to soar – like an eagle.

“When you have come to the edge
Of all light that you know
And are about to drop off into the darkness
Of the unknown,
Faith is knowing
One of two things will happen:
There will be something solid to stand on or
You will be taught to fly.”

Evelyn,
I must share with you – this most recent weekend was one of the most challenging ones for me in quite a while. And I recall back to Saturday – a day that very much was one that made me question so much. And yet – I did hold faith – faith in that all would work out. By Sunday I was feeling much better – although there was still some anxiety about everything (and not knowing how it would all fall out come this week).

I finally told myself – I know what I know – and I trust in the truth. Today – after a particular telephone call…I am feeling even better. I kept faith (even when it felt like I was falling). And – it’s all going to be okay (we are all landing on our feet).

So – reading your message today has extra special meaning for me. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Hello Lance,

I am beginning to suspect that God or the Universe is having the same lessons for a number of us during this period…LOL! Yes, not everything is going to be crystal clear. Faith is knowing that we will be alright even as we traverse across the field of the unknown.

You will receive support, Lance, more than you are aware of. Let me know too if I can be of any assistance!

With love,
Evelyn

Hi Evelyn .. how amazing that you were able to link the dream back .. and work out the guidance from it .. so much in our lives that we make big mountains out of are .. are tiny molehills if we’d just relax, breathe and let be .. I loved this story .. keeping hold of faith .. thank you – Hilary

Hello Hilary,

I don’t remember all my dreams but I am aware that I dream a lot in the night. Signs are also everywhere. Nothing happens by chance. If we are alert to them, we should be able to discern and pick out the relevant and appropriate message. It is the clutter in our minds prevent us from seeing clearly.

I laughed when you said “making big mountains out of tiny molehills”. Exactly! Let’s “catch” ourselves in the act when we next find ourselves creating non-existent mountains that obstruct our way!

Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,

Nice article! It is always nice when we dream and be able to remember it especially if it was a happy dream. Thanks for sharing

Hi Dia,

I am not sure if I would call this a happy dream…more like one that carries a message for me. But yes, it would be nice to remember all my happy dreams!

Hi Evelyn,
Thanks for the song and poem with the reminder to keep holding on. Yes i totally agree with you that after watching the first Chilean miner step out of the shaft, I was filled with so much gratitude for all the blessing I do have in my life and that just being able to breathe clean fresh air each day is a gift.

Thanks for sharing your dreams, I love your story telling

Hello Suzie,

It’s nice to know that I am not the only one tuning into gratitude, while reading about the Chilean miners 🙂 Oh yes, may we greet each day as a gift and a celebration of our being!

Fal - October 21, 2010

Seconds before I came to your site (I frequently read it, by the way), I had just blogged an entry about how I’m feeling uncertain about the future.

Presently, I’m about to go through a new phase in life and will be immersing myself in a different environment then what I’ve been engaged in previously. As such, I was uncertain over whether I’ll be able to deliver and also, glean as much love, joy and fulfillment as I do in my current environment. And I can’t help asking myself questions like, “Can I do this?”, “Is this really for me?”, etc

Lo’ and behold and by some Divine intervention, your entry greeted me tonight as my mind was being heavily inundated with those questions. One sentence particularly stood out: Keep holding on to the faith and let go of the fear.

Thank you for this entry. It’s given me more faith to tackle this new phase in life.

Evelyn Reply:

Oh gosh, Fal! I am glad to know that my post has been timely for you as well. For a while, prior to publishing it, I was wondering if it could be meaningful to anyone else.

Doubt often stops us from moving forward. We freeze while our minds go through long calculations and risk assessments. Really, it doesn’t hurt to go ahead anyway and see what happens. Miracles often arise in the most unexpected areas.

All the best in your new phase of life! May it bring you untold riches!

Abundance always,
Evelyn

Vic - October 28, 2010

Hi Evelyn,
That was a great work of art and it is filled with powerful wisdom. Also thanks for sharing the video, I like singing. With regard to faith, I believe that love is greater than faith. Hence, if we are to love, we must practice and complete our faith. Because if we can’t have faith, how much more can we love? Faith must be justified in our hearts by asking, listening, knowing and being with him/her.

Evelyn Reply:

Hi Vic,

You’ve got interesting views.

I am not sure if faith needs to be justified. If it has to be, then it is really not faith because faith does not depend on any condition.

With love,
Evelyn

Nancy Fairbrother - November 9, 2010

Hi Evelyn,

This post means a lot to me. I’ve been opening myself to deeper levels of faith during the past few weeks and am realizing that just letting go and allowing the universe to express itself through me and through my intentions is all I need to do. I recently started a blog and published my first book, and was putting a lot of pressure on myself to produce what I perceive as perfection. Aghhhh! Glad I am waking up. Thank you!

Hello Nancy,

I couldn’t help but smile when I read your comment 🙂 I am going through exactly what you’ve written: “putting a lot of pressure on myself to produce what I perceive as perfection”. I am in the midst of writing a book. I had my above dream because of it.

It will be nice to keep in touch!

Do stay connected,
Evelyn

Hello Evelyn,

You mentioned this post in a comment you left on my blog so I just had to come read it. One word: AWESOME

Seriously, the way in which you have written this post makes it come across in a powerful way. It inspires me deeply and I thank you for that!

Evelyn Reply:

Hi Keith,

I wasn’t really expecting you to come over and read this post. However, I have to say that I am delighted that you’ve done so 🙂 It means a lot to me when another blogger takes the time to visit my site.

I wouldn’t know how to write this post in any other way because it is a true account….unlike some of the fictional stories that I create for this blog…LOL! It’s nice to know that we all need the same reminder. We can certainly do more to help inspire and encourage each other!

Abundance always,
Evelyn
