Interview Story: Heal Cancer with Self-Love

“Befriend, don’t battle, cancer.”

“We cannot take a spiritual bypass, especially when we are faced with a challenge of this magnitude.”

“Make more room for the light.”

– Rev Denise DeSimone during the interview call

I would like to introduce to you, Rev Denise DeSimone, author to the book From Stage IV to Center Stage, in today’s post. An interfaith minister, Reiki Master and a sound healer, Denise has had a remarkable journey in that she survived Stage IV throat and neck cancer. She first wrote to me about 2-3 weeks ago as she had come across my posts on self-love.

I was struck by her miraculous story. Denise was originally given only three months to live. To top it all, twenty two months after being warned that she might never sing again, Denise sang to a sell-out of 37,000 Red Sox fans at Boston’s Fenway Park! Her story has been shared on Inside Edition, Fox News, The Buckley Report & NBC’s Daytime Show along with extensive radio interviews across the nation.

Denise approached her cancer differently from most. She not only used alternative therapies but she also discovered the core message that was essential for healing: self-love.

Upon receiving Denise’s email, I took the chance to ask her if she would agree to an interview. I was delighted that she said yes. It was timely. I was already thinking of starting a Self-Love Call Series. For this series, I hope to interview luminaries who can inspire us to love ourselves more deeply in the body, mind and spirit.

Denise and I finally connected a couple of days ago. Denise shared wonderful insights on how she overcame her health challenges, the various alternative therapies that she used for cancer healing and how she is now living life differently since her ordeal. Notwithstanding, I have found that her messages equally relevant whether we are currently undergoing a health challenge or not.

And so, I would like to invite you to listen to the interview chat I have with her below. Denise DeSimone is truly a love luminary, with an aligned purpose to share her light. Hopefully, you can pick up some gems from the 40-minute audio when you listen in. Enjoy!

Thank you for this Divine interview with Denise DiSimone….
How do we actually love ourselves in a way that makes the good happy changes in our lives….I listen to and say affirmations for self love daily, do loving things for myself & so on…I still have the health issues with my throat & swallowing food….I make some progress then when I think I am getting better, then it goes back again to the same health disease situation again….its like a chronic ongoing issue that keeps coming back….how to stop this cycle, get past this permanently, and just recover and be healthier, happier, energized from now on so I can look forward to a healthier, happier, body, mind, spirit? How can I get this self love to work better and see good visible results?
Thank you Blessings of Love, Light, Joy, Peace 🙂

Hello Kyan,

Thanks for sharing. There are no easy answers; as the circumstances for each one of us differs.

I can only share what is the core message: for complete healing to happen, we need to look inside ourselves. In many cases before physical symptoms appear, there are root emotional issues and mental beliefs that we have bought into. So this means having to address what these are and to find energetic ways for release. Saying self-love affirmations everyday is not good enough especially when you have not released old patterns of thinking. Invariably, the journey inwards is also a spiritual one.

Additionally, you may wish to explore alternative or complementary therapies that could be helpful for your condition. All in, it is a holistic (body, mind and spirit) approach to self-love healing.

Hope the answer helps. For further discussions, please email me abundancetapestry [at] gmail [dot] com.

Love and blessings,
Evelyn

I’ve often wondered how I would handle things if I got such a diagnosis. I am so happy to learn more about alternative approaches that work in harmony with our bodies and spirits. Thank you!

Hi Galen,

As you probably know, prevention is better than cure.

When we encounter early signs, it’s best that we do not procrastinate looking into complementary therapies for complete healing. I have got a story to tell, but I will keep it for a time when I feel more ready.

What I believe is happening is that people tend to make complementary/alternative therapies their last resort. However, by the time a diagnosis is received, there is usually not many months left for healing. Natural healing usually takes time for its effect to work. Eventually, it may have to be a combination of both western and alternative therapies.

Self-love makes a great preventative and healing balm!

Love and blessings,
Evelyn

I look forward to hearing your story when you are ready. And yes, I agree that earlier is better.

Evelyn, I love your great point on daily affirmations being worthless unless you’ve released old patterns of thinking.

The same theory applies with self love – the release on reliance on someone else providing it, and being able to rely on yourself to appreciate the good things about you. Easier said than done, and a consistent practice !

Hello Razwana,

It sure takes consistent practice, which involves a gradual peeling of the layers. A willingness to release old patterns of thinking is a great place to start 🙂

Thank you for sharing this interview Evelyn – so inspiring to hear Rev DeSimone. I love how the Rev made friends with her cancer and befriended it, instead of figthing it. “Pin” haha 🙂 The lessons of Pin are truly invaluable; the more you love yourself, the less reason for me to be around!

I love her journey about how she spent months on ends and had deep spiritual realizations! And how she says, you can’t take a spiritual bypass:) And that the only way through something is to walk through something. Yes, cancer is tramautic and life-altering but again the spiritual realizations and truth she realized gave her (and us) true wisdom and realization. I’m so glad she’s able to share this message with the world.

Hello Vishnu,

It sure is great to learn from others. And especially from those who have awakened into deeper insights. They help shine the way for our own personal journeys too. Rev DeSimone is one such shining beacon 🙂

Thank you for your lovely feedback,

Hmm it seems like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long) so I
guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips for beginner blog writers? I’d definitely appreciate it.
