How to Show Care In Conscious Leadership

“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” – Theodore Roosevelt

Recently, I was asked to share my secrets to building my essential oil business opportunity. One of my team members wanted to find out how I grew my sales volume. Sales volume had increased by an amazing 100 percent in the first half of this year. She asked me if there was anything special that I did.

For a while, I was stumped by her question. While searching internally for an answer, I tried to recall if I had been using any specific marketing strategy that had a direct impact on results. However, I could not think of any.

The first six months had flown by quickly. I had spent my time mostly on building relationships. My calendar was filled with social activities and appointments. I certainly did not apply any learned strategy that came out of a book, coach or workshop that I had previously attended. Yet, I got increasingly busy.

Where others needed assistance, I offered to help as much as possible. I made it a point to follow up by keeping in contact and availing my time. I also emphasized on training and education and organized sharing sessions so that we can learn from one another. On the back of these efforts, sales volume rose.

And so, I guess one key ingredient is showing care.

What Is Conscious Leadership

As conscious leaders, we are hoping to create an impact. Our fulfillment comes from changing lives. It does not matter what is it that we are exactly doing. We have the desire to becoming conscious (rather than asleep) and we are on the path of inner growth. By working on ourselves, we lead by example. Others are inspired to do the same.

In conscious leadership, we embody care. We care for our customers, team members and basically everyone we serve. Demonstrating expertise and knowledge may be important but a fundamental reason that attracts others to our leadership is because we truly care. When we embody heart care, our actions and behavior spring from this very core center.

3 Ways to Show Care

Then again, some of us may care but do not know how to express ourselves well and effectively. It could also be that we are not very aware that our actions and behavior are conveying something that does not reflect what we truly feel. Hence, we will need to put care into action that matches our heartfelt intention.

Here are some ways that you – as a conscious leader – can show care….

1. Understand Needs, Desires and Motivations. Be interested in others’ needs, desires and motivations. Also understand what they are not wanting. Their non-desires could also fuel them in a certain direction. As a leader, if you can find out what makes them tick, you will find it easier to inspire and encourage them.

2. Follow Up. To care is also to follow up. It means that you keep in contact. You are genuinely interested in maintaining the relationship. It is not a one-time meeting or a rare call that you make to the other party. You set aside time every now and then to find out how your member, friend or client is doing. You offer help where it is needed.

3. Active Listening. Active listening is a communication technique that is used for conflict resolution. However, the technique conveys care. It is often used in counseling and training. Basically, you restate or paraphrase what you have heard to confirm understanding of both parties. The person you are talking to is likely to feel cared for if you listen attentively.

Inadvertently, by opening your heart to care and concern, you attract those who open their hearts to yours. It is how you make a difference! It is also why others love to do business with you 🙂
