Create Powerfully In Pictures

“I am an artist. I love creating masterpieces, valued works of art. I draw love, inspiration, peace and harmony into my life. My purpose is to express my gift beautifully, completely and divinely; so that I can share my light with the world.”

(An acrylic painting of dolphins in underwater I did in 1999; my hobbies included scuba diving and painting.)

I wrote the above lines and shared them from my facebook account recently. I thought I would like to describe a little more of what I mean with an article on creating powerfully in pictures. There is a lot of truth to the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words”. The language of your subconscious mind is not by words but symbols and visuals. Any image in your mind held constant with every belief and trust materializes.

A simple illustration is the building of a house. Before the completed house actually stands on an empty plot of land, the architect has to come up with a design. He or she needs to create in a visual representation. The building materials can then be put together. The final house can only look like what had initially existed in thought forms.

Inspired Visions

The same holds true in everything you desire. It can be a relationship, work, vacations, or even a spiritual connection with angels, guides or the Divine. If you do not have a consistent idea of the end result in your mind, you will have a hard time manifesting it. Having a clear and accurate vision keeps you from being distracted from your dreams by life’s drama, despair and disappointments. You remind yourself of the picture in your mind, to stay on track in pursuing your dreams.

You need to impress on your subconscious so that you can start to draw experiences to bring it forward. You get better results in your visualizations if you employ mental pictures. An inspired vision keeps you focused on where you wish to head. A mental picture keeps you connected with feel-good emotions, as if you are already in possession of your ultimate desire. If you have a vision with a clear mental picture, with strong belief, you move beyond just wishing.

“Vision / It reaches beyond the thing that is, into the conception of what can be. Imagination gives you the picture. Vision gives you the impulse to make the picture your own.”
— Robert Collier (American motivational author, 1885-1950)

The Problem of Inaccurate Picture

Indeed, mostly, many of us find ourselves manifesting the opposite of what we really desire. Our imagining runs contrary to our intents. We give up, saying that the Law of Attraction does not work!

On the contrary, what is really working behind the scene is a poor image that we hold in our subconscious mind. While we hope to create more positive life situations, it will be hard to create a more empowering picture than the one we are already holding in our minds.

Hence, the solution lies in replacing the current mental picture to match our desires. We shift the old picture aside and replace it with a sharper, focused and clearer picture of what we wish to intend for. In case you are interested, the Silva Life program teaches powerful creative visualization techniques to create powerful mental pictures.

The Problem of Vague Picture

If the mental picture is vague and unclear, we are not going to manifest anything. There will simply be no creation. Full stop.

Just like the architect. If he or she does not have a picture to begin with, the house can never take form. The building process cannot begin without a blueprint. The workers cannot lay the bricks, the electrician cannot do the wiring, the carpenter cannot do the woodwork and the painter cannot do the painting. As the architect, you need to have the complete picture of the different elements put together.

(Like how my table came together? My dolphin painting was actually for a table top!)

In fact, the more clearly you are able to see your picture and are definite in your receipt of it, the more quickly it is going to manifest. If you keep changing your plans because you are not clear, then it is only obvious that your manifestation is going to take a longer time.

Paint Pretty Pictures of Happiness, Love and Sunshine

“Dreams are like the paints of a great artist. Your dreams are your paints, the world is your canvas. Believing, is the brush that converts your dreams into a masterpiece of reality.”
— anonymous

You have got an open canvas. It is up to you what you wish to create. If you are hoping for more positive outcomes, it is obvious that you will need to hold uplifting pictures in your mind. Hence, paint pictures of happiness, love, inspiration, peace, joy, sunshine and harmony that draw experiences of the same resonance to you.

Have some fun! Play around with colors, brushes, type of paint or paper. Here is a tip: make your picture colorful, brighter, three-dimensional, and lively! (Each visual attribute is also known as a submodality in NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming). The study of submodalities is about how your brain processes information. By making your picture clearer, colorful, more intense, nearer, etc, you can create personal transformations! )

There is really no limit to what you can create. The problem is not so much whether the possibilities are endless but the boundaries you have placed on yourself. You create obstacles when you start to worry over how the picture is going to take form and fret that what you ask for does not seem coming!

“Life is painting a picture, not doing a sum.”
— Oliver Wendell Holmes (American Physician, Poet, Writer, Humorist and Professor at Harvard, 1809-1894)

Worrying does not solve your issues. Instead, always remind yourself that the Universe is abundant. It brings you the required resources for the manifestation to take place. At the same time, recognize that life does present challenges. Be mindful of negative intrusions. For instance, your ego can get in the way! It introduces fear and interferes with your visioning. However, you need to remember it is not your ego that creates but the divinity within you that does.

Take Action

Here is a summary of what is discussed in this article and previous posts:

1.Replace inaccurate mental picture with the one that match your desires.
2.Sharpen your picture if it is vague, blurred or out-of-focus with clarity, color and brightness.
3.Picture positive outcomes with added details to your picture.
4. Make your picture three dimensional and panoramic.
5. Connect your feelings with the picture.
6.Turn your picture into an inspired vision.
7.Hold the same mental image for at least 68 seconds.

On a practical level, support yourself with exercises, techniques and affirmations. You can do these with the aid of vision boards, mind movies, Silva Life and/or dream manifestation kits.

Have a Make-Over

How have you been picturing yourself? A vision of success, hope and inspiration? Or a picture of dullness, disillusion and despair? You can create a new and more empowering picture of yourself, if you have not already done so. Do share your before and after make-over plans!

Abundance Always,

I love your painting as it reminds me of the wonderful experience I had when I swam with the dolphins here on the Gold Coast. That evokes very special memories for me.
I love paint prety pictures of happiness, love and sunshine.
This has inspired me, time to get the paints and pens out.
Thankyou for sharing your light with me and the world.
It is so good to remind us to take action

Wow, this is a GREAT post. I love the picture and the table. AMAZING. You are very talented. I love drawing and actually did a bit of it while I was on vacation recently but you’ve inspired me with this post and I really want to get back into doing some the creative things I love to do! As for how I picture myself, I’ve done a lot of work to create a more empowered, positive image of myself over the past few months and it’s been a great experience. I now picture myself completely differently!

Hilary - August 24, 2009

Hi Evelyn .. love picture .. I love the colours. Painting is not something that I’ve been able to do .. but I know what I like and have visions in my head for things – but I do not believe I can set it out .. I have tried.

Once I’m through this episode, perhaps I’ll get some paints and give the artistic talent a go .. I don’t believe it’s here – it can be expressed in other ways, and is .. but it is in the family, so something is tucked away.

Thanks Evelyn and I did go across and look at your post of 28 Aug 08 – 17 secs .. really interesting .. thoughts I must explore ..

All the best – Hilary Melton-Butcher

Evelyn — WOW you are multi-talented. I love the picture of the dolphins. It reminds me of watching dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico near where I live.

They are so much fun to watch in the wild. I actually got to see two of them leap up in the air and cross by each other…like they do at SeaWorld, only this wasn’t a trained act. Everybody on the beach who saw this beautiful event stopped what they were doing and applauded. It is a very good memory:~)

Regarding the mediums we use to express creativity, I prefer photography. I have so much fun with it!! I have painted and drawn, but I guess my inner critic is much stronger in these mediums. However, she leaves me alone when I pick up the camera:~)

I will consider your suggestions, however! Do share more, Evelyn…I love to see what others create!

Marelisa - August 24, 2009

Hi Evelyn: I like how you compare building the life that you desire to an architect planning a house. It’s very true that if you plan and create a blueprint you’re more likely to end up with a design that you’re happy with, instead of a bunch of disjointed rooms that you’re not sure what to do with.

Patricia - Spiritual Journey Of A Lightworker - August 24, 2009

Beautiful picture and beautiful words of encouragement. A great way to start my day. Thanks.

Hi Evelyn; With so many e-mail messages coming across our desks everyday, it is easy to miss the gems. I am so glad I did not miss this one. Dolphins have always been a favorite. Though I have not had the opportunity of swimming with dolphins I do feel a kindred spirit. I feel the love you have put into your work. Thank you for sharing.

Lena - August 25, 2009

Hi Evelyn… wow, I love your dolphin painting! You’re so talented! Thanks for sharing your gifts with the world. You’re a real inspiration. 🙂

I think I’m pretty good at creating a positive picture of myself in my mind. I am now focusing on helping my kids do the same.

Nadia - Happy Lotus - August 25, 2009

Hi Evelyn,

You are definitely one talented lady! I love that table. There is something peaceful in that picture. Thank you for sharing your art with all of us.

Thoughts do create form on some level. There is no doubt about that and this post is a great reminder. 🙂

J.D. Meier - August 25, 2009

I am a fan of dolphins and I love your work.

There is something powerful for me about water and dolphins. Maybe I’m just a Flipper fan.

I like your focus on visualization and images, and I think think that incrementally rendering your vision is a skill. It might start as a sketch, but as you gain clarity, you can reshape your path. It’s an ideation and reflection loop that helps you see the end in mind, and correct course as needed.

Lisa (mommymystic) - August 25, 2009

Wow, well first of all, you really are so talented, I had no idea you painted also! And I love the idea behind this post, connecting visual images and symbols with our subconscious mind and creativity with creating a new reality for ourselves. I have always been fascinated with various spiritual and religious symbology, and how symbols are a shortcut for our conscious mind, to connect to levels of awareness that we might not be able to touch otherwise. – Lisa

Hey Suzie,

We do share a similar interest in painting, don’t we? Yes, painting always puts me in a great mood 🙂

I would love to be able to swim with the dolphins in the Gold Coast one day! I did that in Mexico years ago.

Thanks too for sharing your light with me! I love what you are doing with your site!

To your continued success and abundance,

Evelyn - August 25, 2009

Hilary,

I seriously don’t consider myself to be a great artist. I love painting but I have definitely seen better works of art. For a while, I was somewhat reluctant to publish my photos here. Then, I thought “what the heck”. The idea is not to inspire others to really do actual painting but to hold a more empowering picture of ourselves. When we have a mental picture, we will tend to “draw” (note double meaning) more positive outcomes.

In my own experience, magic happens when I bring the different elements of myself together for expression. It may be the same for you too. So not just painting but maybe a combination of creative ways to fully express your divine self!

Love & light,
Evelyn

Evelyn - August 25, 2009

Sara,

I enjoyed reading about the experience you had with the dolphins leaping in the air. It sounds beautiful! For a moment, I thought I could see dolphins doing what you have described. I must have transported myself to the beach, just imagining that!

Oh yes, I love the photos that you publish. I enjoy your picture story posts!!

Do continue to shine, sparkle and share!

With love,
Evelyn

Evelyn - August 25, 2009

@Marelisa, I can totally relate to the example of the house too and decided to share it. Hopefully, I can have the home of my dreams (what lie in my thoughts) soon!!

@Patricia, thanks for your positive feedback! I love that my post helped you in a great start!

@Sally, welcome to my site. You’ve certainly made my day with your feedback on picking to read my email from the rest. I am glad that you connected with the idea of swimming with the dolphins. Thanks too for recognizing the love that I put into my post! It is really my wish to share my light with the world!

Evelyn - August 25, 2009

@Lena, thank you for your compliments. It is nothing great really! Thanks for your positive feedback too 🙂

@Vered, great idea in helping our kids with creating more empowering pictures of themselves!

@Nadia, hey…thanks for your compliments! I was scouting around for a suitable picture for this post when I hit upon the idea of sharing something that I have personally painted. Yes, I enjoy the constant reminders for myself!

Evelyn - August 25, 2009

J.D.,

I fully support the idea of getting started and doing some course correct. The point that I would like to highlight is that if we have no clarity in what we wish to manifest, we do not begin to worry about why our dream is not coming. We understand that we are still in the midst of fine-tuning it.

I didn’t know that you have a thing with dolphins! Have you tried swimming with the dolphins yet? Amazing experience, if you are to ask me!

Abundance always,
Evelyn

Evelyn - August 25, 2009

Lisa,

I have not painted for some time. My consuming passion is now writing for my blog. I find that it really does not matter how I express myself so long as there is an outlet channel for me. But I definitely like to connect to the idea of creative art; since it has always been one of my interests from young.

Lately, I have also been intrigued with the use of symbology. I used to find it hocus pocus. But I realize now that there can really be deeper meanings to the topic. I am also trying to learn the interpretation of dreams, in an attempt to understand what my subconscious is telling me. All in, fascinating topic for me to further explore! It’s great that we share similar interests!

Love and blessings,
Evelyn

Hilda - August 25, 2009

Hi Evelyn,

I love your painting! I do a bit of painting myself, but I have to keep it very simple – I don’t have your talent. But I find if I keep it simple and focused on my intent for the painting I eventually get the outcome I want.

And I agree entirely with how that all corelates with manifestation. I have experienced it over and over in my own life. Whenever I can clearly visualise what I want I easily manifest it. But when my vision is vague or I keep changing the details…. not so easy!

Thanks for the great reminders in this post. I’m working on a vision right now 😉

Megan "JoyGirl!" Bord - August 25, 2009

This is awesome! I started visualizing the life I wanted to lead a couple years ago, and never considered myself “very good” at visualizing. Yet I must be better than I thought because I’m living the life of my dreams — just a few more brush strokes needed in certain areas, but overall, it’s a masterpiece.
Adding the element of feeling to the picture is HUGE. Once I learned that, I began attracting who and what I wanted to me lightning fast.
I love how you pointed out that, “Worrying does not solve your issues. Instead, always remind yourself that the Universe is abundant. It brings you the required resources for the manifestation to take place.” This reminded me of Mike Dooley’s advice to “know the wow’s, not the how’s.” I’ve always remembered that and as you said, the Universe has abundant resources. Our job is to have faith, and start drawing!
Awesome post!

“2.Sharpen your picture if it is vague, blurred or out-of-focus with clarity, color and brightness.
3.Picture positive outcomes with added details to your picture.”

You’ve shared a powerful process and although all the steps are important in my experience people fall down in the two steps above. Clarity is essential in conscious creation. When we start as clear as we can, we put ourselves into position for even greater clarity. Powerful post indeed!

Daphne @ Joyful Days - August 25, 2009

Evelyn,

Your post came at a time in my life when I need it! I knew about images years ago and did lots of collages about my dream life. For some reason I stopped looking at those pictures. And now I’m starting from scratch and it’s a great reminder to visualise the life we want. Thanks for this post, more than you realise.

Davina - August 25, 2009

Hi Evelyn. Gorgeous artwork. I love the colours and the gentleness. I’m all for picturing a positive picture, and have played around with the LOA. I think it’s becoming too conditional for a lot of people though: “I visualize… I get ‘something’.” Me, me, me… and something gets lost sight of or blocked… I dunno… the process is emerging on other levels that we’re not aware of. Too much focus or containing of a vision can prevent it from happening and I feel that in all eagerness, that is what happens for a lot of people; myself included.

This hadn’t occurred to me until I read this post, but lately I’ve not been picturing myself in any way; “something” has been happening where more of me is flowing forth and I’m not even trying. I’m just appreciating more of myself.

Katie West/The Levity Coach - August 25, 2009

I love how your posts seem to align so beautifully what I am thinking about. Lately, I have been offering my clients the challenge of drawing what they want most for their lives. But before I let them draw anything specific…I ask them to draw the energy and how it feels. By connecting with themselves, their feelings through images…they are so much more able to fill in the specifics. And once they get clear on the specifics-they are surprised at how they come flooding into their lives. And mine too!
I recently put a lot of work into imagining a new part of my work and the sense of abundance that came from it still makes me pause with wonder! Thank you for continuing to put these much needed concepts out into the world as fearlessly as you do.
Katie

Evelyn,
Wow that table is amazing. I’m pretty good at holding a vision for myself. I also like to hold them for others. As a therapist I’ve learned to hold visions of whom my clients wanted to be because they weren’t ready to hold them for themselves.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Evelyn, what a beautiful piece of art you definitely have the blessing
for your creativity with your arts and words. Thank you for sharing your beautiful vision with all your talents, you make a positive inspiration role model that i looked upon. Love, Respect, Peace Delia

Robin - August 26, 2009

Hi Evelyn – I love your painting and table. The dolphins have a glint in their eye – the colours are beautiful. Thanks for the inspiration to get back to some visualisation!

Evita - August 27, 2009

Evelyn the picture you painted is so beautiful!!! Wow!

And yes I so agree, so many people get stuck on the LOA and fret saying that yes it must not work. But we do not realize that we need focus above all else to get what we really want. The Universe doesn’t just give us an elephant, when we say I want to manifest an elephant. Gosh, if that were true, we would have a lot more problems in the world today.

So yes it comes down to having a clear vs a vague picture and about sticking with it. If you really want something, you have to stick with it, otherwise the Universe understands that this wasn’t what you really wanted afterall.

Chris Edgar | Purpose Power Coaching - August 27, 2009

I love the painting — it must be so inspiring to sit at that table and be reminded of the beauty you’re capable of creating.

Avani Mehta - August 27, 2009

Evelyn, the painting is beautiful and table-top quite non traditional 🙂 Would love to have a table looking like that.

I am not good at visualizing. It’s something that I keep practicing but struggle a lot. At the same time, I am good with words and very clear about how I want certain things to be. I am sometimes surprised to find a lot of things in my just the way I want – like my hubby and his family and where we live currently. I guess this means that not only pictures but words work as well. Clarity is most important (as you have already mentioned)

Jake | Revive Your Life - August 27, 2009

Thanks

Hi Evelyn – “You create obstacles when you start to worry over how the picture is going to take form and fret that what you ask for does not seem coming!” This is something I’ve certainly experienced. Instead of picking up the paints and starting to create my picture, I get caught up in how I’m going to do it and end up spending more energy worrying than creating. 😉

Jannie Funster - August 29, 2009

I am very very impressed with your art talent.

And appreciate the idea of going for a crisp clear picture over a vague one, hitting the nail of where one wants to go right on the head with that, instead of beating around a murky bush.

And of course Action — my motto for success. Even small action lead to great positive energy.

Evelyn - August 29, 2009

Hey Hilda,

Painting is for the soul. All it requires is your love in it. I am sure that your paintings are perfect as they are 🙂

Good luck with your vision!! I am working on mine too! Let’s play it big, shall we?

Abundance always,
Evelyn

Evelyn - August 29, 2009

Megan,

You said “just a few more brush strokes needed in certain areas, but overall, it’s a masterpiece”. How awesome for you! Yes, a process of fine-tuning and you’d be there!

Thanks for sharing Mike Dooley’s advice to “know the wow’s, not the how’s”. Exactly!!

To your success,
Evelyn

Evelyn - August 29, 2009

Tom,

Thanks for your positive feedback.

I am working on the clarity part myself. I would certainly like to manifest my true heart’s desires, than have fuzzy results.

Wishing you every success,
Evelyn

Evelyn - August 29, 2009

Daphne,

I know for a fact that visuals do work! I was pretty surprised how the results I got correlated with some of the images I had mentally as well as those on my vision board that I did last year.

All the best to your dreams! Remember to add the brush strokes of belief to your visuals!

Abundance always,
Evelyn

Evelyn - August 29, 2009

Hey Katie,

I love what you have shared about asking your clients to get in touch with their feelings, before they even begin to draw. I won’t be surprised that drawings created this way capture the very essence of the their souls. Not to forget many masterpieces by top artists are produced in the very flow of connecting body and spirit.

Good for you in imagining a new part of your work! I have every confidence that you can do it! Let’s be fearless together and conquer the world with our dreams!

Abundance always,
Evelyn

Evelyn - August 29, 2009

Hey Davina,

You have a point there about becoming too fixated during the visioning process. What I can think of is that this happens when people start to grasp, attach and cling on with a good dose of “worry” and “lack”.

I allow room for “play” and “surprises” even though I hope to hold my vision steady and clear. The going with the flow is still there, since I refrain from focusing on the how.

All the best!
Evelyn

Evelyn - August 29, 2009

@Tess, it’s amazing that you can help your clients hold visions. I do that too by visualizing them well, happy and completely healed.

@Delia, your words mean so much to me. I appreciate your support and encouragement. Thank you, my dear!

@Stacey, your new house sounds so welcoming!! Hope to see some pictures on your site!

@Evita, thank you for your comment on my painting. I am feeling somewhat embarrassed really. I published my photo with the intent of sharing the message in this post and not to gather compliments for it. Still, I am reminded to accept positive feedback with grace. So I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your compliments and also for reinforcing I have shared in this post!

Evelyn - August 29, 2009

@Robin, it is just like you to notice the glint in the dolphins’ eyes. Thank you for your lovely feedback! Yes, please get to work with doing some proper visualizations!!

@Chris, oh yes…the table is now in my kids’ room. They love it!

@Avani, a table like that cannot be found anywhere else I guess. The painting is not picture perfect but it certainly is a labor of love. It’s great that words work well for you! Do whatever resonates and works!

Evelyn - August 29, 2009

@Jake, how lovely that you play the guitar! I have never learned a musical instrument. It’s true that everyone can be creative in whatever way they wish to express themselves. There are really no rules!

@Kaushik, thanks for your feedback 🙂

@Mike, glad that you like the advice 🙂

@Amanda, hmmm….your obstacle is pretty common with many of us. We need to be constantly reminded to stay on track with our mental visioning!

@Janine, thank you for your nice compliments. You said “hitting the nail of where one wants to go right on the head with that, instead of beating around a murky bush.” I enjoyed the analogy you used! Exactly!!

hi Evelyn,
I love this portion you shared: “If you do not have a consistent idea of the end result in your mind, you will have a hard time manifesting it. Having a clear and accurate vision keeps you from being distracted from your dreams by life’s drama, despair and disappointments. You remind yourself of the picture in your mind, to stay on track in pursuing your dreams.”
~since I am so visual – i have a collection of photos (from online and also from magazines) that I save and arrange in a binder with inserts and mark up phrases and claim different images on different days. I find this helps give my spirit form and helps me consistently move forward. Also, I use another social networking site more as a creative journey tool – creating what I wish to experience before i do. once I feel I am arriving there, I re-decorate and add new quotes etc.. and it is So powerful, healing, cleansing and has added such growth to my life! Very effective blog topic! Thanks for sharing! ~luv Jen

Wow! That image of the dolphins is stunning — totally grabbed my attention!

Not forgetting the huge vision board that you had featured here a while ago. You are an amazing artist too! Haha.

Okay I’m gonna read up on that 68secs post now. Have an awesome week ahead!

Walter - September 6, 2009

It’s not easy to create inspiring pictures in our mind. With the world outside posing as a model, it’s hard to inspire a good vision. Still, we hold our choices in life. We chose what we put in out mind and act accordingly. You did put an artistic analogy here. 🙂
