How to Shift Your Money Desire Consciously

Allow me to clarify on a point where much confusion arise with many people: the desire for money.

The desire to have money is nothing wrong. Many make the idea of desiring money as being sinful. This is not wise thinking. After all, we need money to pay for our living expenses. And if we have hopes and dreams to change the world to a better place, we need the necessary capital to fund these.

Desires are borne out of contrast. It is our wish for a more expanded experience that fuels us to being and doing more. It is our wish to improve the quality of our lives that prompt us to pursue our money-making ideas.

However, let us recognize that money is a means to an end. Should we be in blind pursuit of money, we would have robbed ourselves of living joyfully even whilst we are on the journey to building our dreams. We would be in misery every day, because we are just sweating over our money struggles. We are not happy because our thoughts dwell on the fact that we are not there yet.

Hence, it helps to be clear about the intent of your desire. Questions that you may like to ask yourself include:

Is your work driven from love or fear?
For what purpose, are you intending to use the money for?
Does the purpose add to life? In other words, is it life-enhancing?
Is this purpose in the highest good of all concerned?

The Desire to Build Your Heart-Centered Dream

Let’s also get another idea that commonly confuses people straight. The desire to build your heart-centered dream and in the process, making money, should not immediately be viewed as a self-serving one. On the contrary, you don’t serve anyone by being miserable and poor.

In fact, you would be doing your family members a disservice by not going for your dreams, loving what you do, and playing small. You will be mostly feeling bitter, frustrated and lousy. Hence, you are not likely to be a fun person to hang around with. Neither are you likely to inspire others to better themselves.

Wouldn’t you agree that things are going to look a lot different when you are less tight and also, when you have more than enough?

You would be able to dine in a nice restaurant every now and then. You will be able to afford the nice home that is located in a tranquil neighborhood. You will have the funds to build another room that will serve as a peaceful meditation sanctuary.

With greater wealth, you can direct your money to worthy causes. You can also help support someone else’s dream. Some years ago, we lent money to a friend for his university fees. Without condition, we also went on to support him monetarily for further education, so that he can have a better shot in life. Not only is he happy, we are also delighted to be in a position to help. Our bank accounts are also automatically deducted on a monthly basis for contributions to children’s charities as well as support for various organizations in developing countries.

Bring Unconditional Love to Your Money Desire

Once you gain clarity about the higher purpose of why you desire money, place your attention there. You are not focusing on the money per se but you are focusing on the good that you serve and the value that you bring to the world. You also provide work from a place of love.

Then again, be sure to maintain some form of work-life balance even as you pour your heart and soul into your work. Allocating time for family is vital, for instance. I say this because I noticed that increasingly, many couples are filing for divorce because of leading separate lives. They are too busy with their individual careers to spend time in ironing differences out. Their children suffer tremendously from the stress of a family breakup.

Buddhist teachers taught me this: Your loving presence is the greatest gift that you can make in any area of your life. If you are at work, you give 100% presence. If you are with your family, you give 100% presence. Not forgetting: as you support your loved ones, your loved ones will support you too. With the support from others, an increased level of energy flows in the direction of your dream.

The world needs more people to love what they do. Hence, if you love what you do, you are already making the world a better place. Money flows from the state of your being. You attract money that springs from love with ease and grace.
